Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc
This is Steve Jobs' commencement address to Stanford University.
He talks about three stories, which are connecting the dots, love and loss, and death. He illustrates his life in each stories and I think that is why this commencement address is so motivating and inspiring.

I am a champion
The video I have posted below is an inspirational speech given by a coach to his football team right before a game. Being involved in sports, and recently being in the GNAC tournament, our team spent a lot of time together trying to motivate each other to strive for greatness and figure out what it takes to be a champion. This video not only inspires me as an athlete, but a student and culinarian as well. I interperate the message as strive for greatness. Never settle for less and always try to beat your opponent no matter if it is another team, long nights of homework, or a practical in the kitchen.
Let me know what you think of the video!

I can honestly say music is my life. It probably takes up fifty percent of my day, everyday. Now, the way I listen to music has a lot to do with my live for it. I am talking about sound quality. I have purchased many speaker systems throughout my life, many speakers. it is crazy the difference sound quality makes to a song. I remember my first speaker purchase, a low price, unknown brand speakers. I was excited to set them up and listen to my music everyday while I showered and got ready for school. music plays a huge part in how my mood is for the start of my day. turned out these cheap speakers were very poor quality. basically, I couldn't hear a thing while the shower was on. however, this did not go for long. My birthday came along and I knew what to ask for. I purchased the almighty Beats by Dre Monster Beatbox. It was a single box of pure greatness. the sound quality was awesome. The volume did not even have to be at one hundred percent in order for me to hear a song over the shower noise. I was a happy man.

The Cheesecake Factory
The
Cheesecake Factory is the first restaurant I tried when I come to the United
States, and my favorite place in United States. Also, the cheesecake factory is
famous in Korea. The Cheesecake Factory is a unique, upscale casual dining
restaurant offering approximately 200 menu items including appetizers, pizza,
seafood, steaks, chicken, burgers, pasta, specialty items, salads, sandwiches,
omelets and desserts including approximately 40 varieties of cheesecake and
other baked desserts. Most of all foods price is $10~$30. Also, the cheesecake
price is $6~$8 of each piece. It is a very reasonable price as compared food
portions. I have a good restaurant experience in the cheesecake
factory. Also, you can do take-out services about foods and cheesecakes. If you
don't go to the cheesecake factory before, see my review and then, eat foods
moderately for price, receive nice services and enjoy mood of restaurant. I
hope good restaurant experience for you.

Farmstead, Inc
It looked like a normal restaurant at first view. The front of the
building had a white wall with a small whiteboard shining under the bright
sunshine. There were bushes and trees were here and there outside the
restaurant. The street was so quiet it felt like we were the only ones who were
on the street. I felt a gentle breeze that smelled like freshly baked breads
and grilled cheese softly brushing my arms. Through the multi-paned window, I
saw cheeses piled high on a big, wooden table and high-top tables and stools arranged
right next to the cheese area. The inside of the restaurant looked natural with
fresh flowers on the table and big bright lights hanging from the ceiling. On a
large window facing the street, it said, Farmstead, Inc

Why Chick-fil-A?!?!?!?
Upon ordering at a fast
food restaurant, there are three lines that you will always here; “Would you
like to make that a combo? Would you like to make it a larger for an additional
few cents?” Is that all?” All of these lines get annoying and everyone gets
sick and tired of hearing these lines when they just want to order food. What
makes Chick-fil-A stand out amongst other fast food places is that it is welcoming
for the entire family! The remarkable food and fast service definitely make it
GREAT!

Breaking Bad Review
When
a man makes a life choice with no possible positive outcome, would you still
want to witness the story? Will he cook crystal meth for life; die of cancer or
by the hand of the DEA; choose the business or family? Many people are
naturally drawn to tragedy with a good story line. And a high school chemistry
teacher who begins cooking meth to provide for his family after he is diagnosed
with cancer promises just that.

A Johnson and Wales student, eating is limited to many dining halls throughout the campus, but lately tend to become a bad habit when trying new food and expanding a young culinary students food intake. Last Friday, I decided to break the norm and venture out to get something that I've never had before here in providence.
I love Mexican food, but I also love cheap food. When I was first approached by my friends about going to a place called Baja's I was skeptical. They explained it as being a place like Chipotle, or Moe's, just one step away from dining halls - the Franchise, so at first I didn't really know if I wanted to go for something I have already had, for many reasons. With all of that put aside I decided to travel to Thayer Street.....

The Beehive Cafe
On a cold rainy day one might find themselves enjoying a hot cup of chamomile tea in the comfort of their own bed. However, the tea enthusiast in me found myself at the doorstep of The Beehive Café.
Quaint and quiet, as expected; wood flooring and paneling surrounded the café. My friend and I were slightly confused. We expected the café to formal. Instead, we walked up to a counter to order lunch. To the right of the counter, "Obama 44".."Ruby Sippers" .. jars packed with fragrant teas lined the shelves. We picked out drinks and entrees and were given an animal as our table marker; we were given a gorilla. It was very interesting (to say the least).

Not Your Average Joes Restaurant Review
Not only is it delicious and affordable, it's also a chain! Not Your Average Joe's is on the uprising, and can be found in various locations in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island area. I have been to this restaurant chain over ten times and can't rave enough about it.My experiences at this restaurant have always been good ones. When my family visits me at school, there is no question where we want to go to dinner. Being a student at Johnson and Wales University, I have experience in the culinary field and front of the house services, and the NYAJ staff is a knockout across the board. The food is fresh, creative, and very memorable. It's consistent, clean, and the staff is very friendly without crossing the line of professionalism. Check out my restaurant review posted in the link below and give NYAJ a try yourself!

The best chocolate chip cookie for less than a dollar
It is easy for me to say that the chocolate chip cookie is my weakness. So much my weakness in fact that I get energy from eating one. Basically I will try a chocolate chip cookie wherever they are available for example Starbucks, McDonald's, Mrs. Field's and even fancy restaurants.I have paid up to ten dollars for a single cookie. Now, for any other chocolate chip lovers like myself, listen up. If you have not made the amazing discovery of the best overall chocolate chip cookies around then this is your lucky day. as crazy as it sounds, the best chocolate chip cookie is everywhere. I mean in a quick service restaurant that has surpassed even McDonald's as the largest chain. I am talking about Subway. There is no better tasting cookie than theirs especially for the price. I mean they are a perfect size and perfect chip to cookie ratio. Basically, if you get one from Subway early in the morning when they are fresh out of the oven, you will be in heaven.

On Wednesday, April 9th I had the privilege to attend a seminar in which the author of the book Blood, Bones, and Butter, Gabrielle Hamilton, spoke at. At first I didn't know what to expect, and honestly looking around I couldn't tell which person she was. When she was first called on stage, I realized that she was an ordinary women that really took her passion and ran with it. She talked first about her past, and within her explanations she would read excerpts from her book. They were honestly moving. She was a blunt women who described her life to the T.
From the whole seminar I got that Blood, Bones, and Butter follows an unconventional journey through the many kitchens Hamilton has been through in the years: the rural kitchen of her childhood, where her adored mother stood over the six-burner with an oily wooden spoon in hand; the easy catering companies that helped pay the rent; Hamilton’s own kitchen at Prune, with its many unexpected challenges; and the kitchen of her Italian mother-in-law—the result of a difficult marriage that she was able to fight through and ended up paying off for her.
This seminar really gave me a new thought of life itself. I was able, for those two hours I sat in that auditorium, just listen and really get good information based off of what she believed. She believes that women one day, even starting now, are beginning to get a bigger role in the culinary kitchen, but to her she just likes to "chill man" as she would put it. I truly recommend that you read her book and/or even just read about her life, because she inspired me.

"Blood Bones and Butter"
On Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 7pm I attended Gabrielle Hamilton's book seminar at the Schneider Auditorium. I had so many different expectations. I had never seen nor heard of Gabrielle Hamilton until advertisements of her memoir had been posted all along my campus. She was advertising her seminar with a few straight-and-to-the-point images of simply....blood, bones and of course, butter.
When Gabrielle Hamilton took the stage in the auditorium, she immediately captured the attention of the room. Whether it was her dry humor or her frank comments, she was a very complex and interesting woman. "What is your opinion about the male chefs that dominate the industry and how is it working with them?" Her reply- "I am an advocate for woman's equality but I don't know we just all hang out man. I am one of them."
You could tell that Hamilton had a great deal of experience in the field of Culinary Arts. She used certain terms for dishes that she had written about. Her amazing descriptions captured the complexity of the dishes she made and consumed. She was ultimately mesmerizing.
She told a story of a young girl who started off cooking in the kitchen with her large family. Who then spent most of her teenage years in the streets, red tube top and all. She spoke of a teen who was taking lines of coke at the age of 13. Who then began to realized she needed money, so she began to work in a restaurant. That teenager was her. I truly admire how Hamilton prospers to live her life to the fullest. I respect her work ethic, and how far she has come. She seems to have faced many things in her life and she is still a strong and empowering woman.
I would definitely recommend reading her book and seeing what she's all about!

Another Brick In The Wall- Pink Floyd
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teach, leave them kids alone
Hey, teacher, leave them kids alone
All in all it's just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
To me, Pink Floyd is a band that I have grown up with, whatever the problem, mood, or situation, there is always a song to calm my mood. Right now, it is mid-term (mid-trimester) and I am ready to graduate. I do not want to deal with anymore class then I already have. On top of all this, I have been sick and missing class has really taken a toll on me.
This song just happens to be my favorite and the lyrics suck me in just like the ocean. Jus the rhythm of the song and the words can change me from really mad to completely calm in a matter of minutes. It starts off as "the teaches" talking from a point of view, in some sense. It then switches to the children taking control and stating their own opinion and "laying down the law!"

"I'll Keep You Safe" by Sleeping at Last
Sometimes it’s nice to hear someone promise to protect
you. The comfort that comes when you hear that your mistakes are neccesarry,
that they are okay, and common is indescribable. Just take a moment and
breathe. Think about the things that make you special and happy while listening
to this song. Think about all of the things that you have botched up and let
them go. What’s done is done. Now find a way to make a task or yourself better.
Let this song be your sense of security when you need one.

Invictus
Out of the night that covers me
Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms the horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid
It matters not how straight the gait
Nor charged with punishment the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul
- Invictus by William Ernest Henley
This is one of my favorite poems of all time. I love the way it depicts emotion. To me it tells describes how I feel and how I am in command of my actions.

"Drops of Jupiter"
"Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken?
You best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong.
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance, five-hour phone conversation?
The best soy latte that you ever had and me."
These lyrics are from my ALL TIME favorite song, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train. This song has been my power ballad for the course of my life. From the times I first heard it singing in the car seat in the back of my moms mini-van, to the time I saw Train perform live in Boston with my best friends. Listening to this song time and time again is like reading your favorite book over again. Or watching that favorite movie of yours numerous times. You always find something new in it. You can see a deeper meaning, or something that you never thought of before.
This song currently correlates with my life. I am always growing and maturing into the young woman that I've always hoped to be. I've been making a lot of recent friendships with many different people. Friendships that I hope are for a lifetime! This song is all about a girl with "drops of jupiter" in her hair, who seems to be on the hunt to find herself and/or the deeper meaning in something she cannot define. I am still finding pieces of myself, and I will continue to play this song time and time again throughout this journey!

Feeling like you'll never find
You spend the money
But it never seems like you spend the time
Are you even sure
Could you make up your mind
Looking for all the answers
You should probably get in line"
Timeflies is a new group and their new song Fall just came out. I am sitting by my computer tonight listening to the lyrics of the song and the first couple lines really stand out. It is pretty much telling the listener or in general describing a feeling of "ill never make it" or "ill never be that good." It makes me want to just work harder with everything in my life. I am gonna get myself in line and accomplish all of the goals that i have set for myself. The beat is awesome and i could definitely listen to this song on repeat so check it out!

If I got three wishes, my first one would be to have summer here yesterday. Between working 30 hours on the weekends, then school full time, I'm ready to relax and enjoy some good weather. Country music has always made me think of summer.
Over It
"You stayed lost so long, got over it
I'll ponder later on, go over it
Can't escape the task, not over it
Waitin' for you to ask, I'm over it"
This lyric by Dinosaur Jr. really relates to my right now because of the weather. It reminds me of just finally getting through a long winter, and now everything is finally improving with the beautiful weather. This is one of my favorite bands mainly based on instruments. The amazing guitar riffs draw you in at first, and the talent of the band keeps you listening long term.

Take some time to simmer down, keep your head down low
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajjj4pLnjz8
Recently (and right now) I have been feeling really stressed out and all over the place. Trying to juggle ridiculous hours of softball, schoolwork, and finding an internship for THIS summer has taken a toll on me. Over sleeping and missing class is not something in my frame of mind, but recently it has been happening more than it should. Leaving for softball at 7am and not getting back until 10 pm sometimes, leaves me little, or zero time for anything else. I know I can get through my crazy schedule and push through to come out on top. This song tiptoe, by Imagine Dragons means (to me) that you can rise above your competition or challenges, it just takes time, and management. Step back and take a breathe from the craziness in your life, which is what I plan to do. Nobody else can fix it for you, so "take some time to simmer down, keep your head down low and tiptoe higher" than the rest.

I'm in a calm mood, and my favorite band is The Beatles. My favorite song from them is In My Life which was a theme song from the show Providence. My mother and I used to watch it when I was younger, now the show is gone and my mother passed away from cancer last October. So its a nice song to remember her by instead of one that has the cancer word in it. Listen to it and see what you can remember from your childhood!!
