Steve Jobs has always been a perfectionist. He wanted his products to be the best quality, perform superiorly and please all of his chstomers. Healeays had big dreams and it makes me SO MAD that he passed away and they've already released two iPhones (not great ones might I add) and in order to make money his employees went against everything he believed in. Disgusting.

Night Owl
I can't remember the last time I went to sleep at a reasonable hour. I could work all day but still stay up until at least four in the morning. Or it could be the exact opposite and I go to sleep around four in the afternoon and wake up at one in the morning. I have always been one to stay up late and sleep all day. I often refer to myself as a vampire or night owl. My family would call me sleeping beauty. I could be sleep for hours no problem no matter what was going in around me. I guess I am still pretty much the same way, except when it comes to my phone ringing. Nine out ten times I wake up when my phone rings. You could say I am a little attached.

Role models in sports
So I'm not really big into professional Sportsball or anything, but I often hear that professional athletes should be held to a certain moral standard as a role model for children. So often, professional athletes in football, baseball and basketball seem to grossly misbehave or commit horrible crimes.
Do you feel that as a society, we should hold professional athletes to a higher standard as a role model?

Penny for your thoughts
The penny now costs 2.41 cents to make and has been reduced to 2.75% copper. It has been fighting a losing battle with inflation since it was introduced in 1793. Last year Canada took their penny out of circulation. Do you think we should do the same?

The Unemployment Rate Being so High is Really Not Good at All!!
The unemployment rate in Rhode Island is higher than any other state in the US, and it really is not okay! I am from Rhode Island and my family has been affected by the fact that it is so difficult to find a job that allows them to pay their bills and raise their families. It is not okay at all, it's not fair that my family is struggling so bad to make ends meet and there are people out there blowing their money like its water. Something seriously needs to be done with the unemployment problem because there are people who are living off of the unemployment benefits and can barely eat a full meal!

Money Changing our Essence
Money Changing our Essence
Something that I can not tolerate is how we let ourselves get influenced by superficial things. Everyday the world is becoming more materialistic and cold. We are starting to forget about the important things in life, and we let money and ambition guide our actions. As we grow up we have more responsibilities and goals to accomplish. Also our worries and stress increases too. We have bills to pay, taxes, work, health insurance, school, etc. Our seek for money becomes our priority number one. And I'm not saying this is wrong, because we need it in order to have a decent life but we are letting this take control of our life and we do not realize the effects it has in us and our behavior.
As we start to earn more money and build what we call "our happiness", we start to lose that sence of compassion and sensibility that once was important for us. I have seen so many people that in their pursuit of money and wealth they lost sensibility about the poor people, feeling better about having the last smart phone or the expensiest bag, expending their money in luxuries to show off. The problem here is that despite having so much they do not give anything to the ones who doesn't, share is hard to find in their dictionary, and humility is no longer there. They also have created this entitlement, believing they deserve more than others and putting their interests ahead of the needs of others.
The saddest part is that we are forgetting the important things, those that truly fulfill our life. A true friendship, a healthy family, a hug with affection, and the value of all the things we accomplish with hard work. We are so worried making money and letting it change our life that we are forgetting to enjoy the journey of it. Yes we do need money but keep in mind that money can't buy happiness or love. As this phrase says "The happiest people don't have the best of everything, They just make the best of everything".

YOU KNOW WHAAAAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS
Trust fund kids. You know those types the ones born into millions of dollars not a care in the world. They go to private universities. Once they graduate two year late, then they go on to do real-estate as a "hobby". Entitled weenies that never learn the true meaning of handwork. Eventually their fathers croak and the fortune is handed down to them which is wasted on materialistic garabage. What a shame.

Need some advice?
People People People....
You wouldn't want to help someone? We as humans should be more considerate and lend a helping hand to others in need.My advice to you would be to take a second and think about the people who go to sleep at night with a empty stomach, what if that were you. If you had the chance to feed a few people and make them happy wouldn't you. Stop being selfish and take a step to helping your "brothers and sisters" a give them a reason to smile and realize they are here for a reason and not to suffer. Lets all gather together as one big whole and help our country as well as others. Anything can help someone and save the life of that person.

CHUBBY BUNNIES
There is nothing i hate more then seeing
obese children. i think because it is such a touchy subject for me because i
was an overweight child but its the fact that it is just so unhealthy. Many
health issues stem from obesity and being overweight and as children that is
not a problem they should be worried about especially at such a young age. The
word ''Diet'' refers to change, whether its the changing of eating habits or
overall exercise. children should not be worried about these things at such a
young age and parents need to start making a point of this. Childhood obesity
is a rising epidemic and the parents should start taking a lot more action in
the prevention of obesity in children because it can lead to severe health
issues and even physiological issues as well.

Rant: Death Penalty might be abolished
The Death penalty is an issue that has the United States quite divided. Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences. While there are many supporters of it, there is also a large amount of disapprovals. Currently, there are thirty-three states in which the death penalty is legal and seventeen states that have ended it. I believe the death penalty should be legal all over the nation. The use of capital punishment discourages citizens from committing crimes such as murder. Many people’s greatest fear is death; therefore if they know that death is a possible consequence for their actions, they are less likely to perform such actions.

When You Think Pork Chops Can't Get Any Better, Stuff Them!
My birthday is the day after Christmas. I used to think it was the worst birthday, but I've had a few years of proof that it isn't. First, with it being the holidays not many people forget my birthday. Yes, many people combine my gifts but who cares! At least they thought of me at all, I've come to decide now that I'm not 10 and only care about presents. The best part of my birthday is my birthday dinner. My dad lives in New Hampshire and I don't get to see him as often as I would like. My dad spends every Christmas Eve in Rhode Island at my great aunt's house and we have a great party. Then Christmas day he spends with his sister and my step-mom's family while I spend it with my siblings and my mom's side of the family. My birthday we go to NH and do the whole Christmas deal at my dad's house (3 days of celebration, you jealous?!) followed by a big birthday dinner/party. My dad has made it a point to always let the birthday girl/boy pick their meal. A few years ago I was feeling ambitious from watching so many cooking shows and my dad and I decided to make stuffed pork chops. We got butcher-cut thick pork chops and a few different types of sausage and Parmesan cheese, and some string. We made a delicious seasoned, cheesey sausage mixture and then stuffed all the pork chop (we had 20 people!), seared each one and baked them. Needless to say it was the BEST thing I've EVER eaten. I wish I had a picture of it ): Hopefully if I ever make it again it is just as good as the first time because I still dream about it to this day.

Why Is School Not as Exciting as Flappy Bird??
Ok so kids today can do incredible thing playing games like flappy bird and other video games but they cant get those scores on an academic test? Fo Realz?! If school was as exciting we wouldn't have this problem. Btw my new high score is 45 which I achieved in nutrition class, and my last test grade was a 71%...point proven.

Don't Mind My Ranting
Alright, so this topic has been on my mind for the longest time. Do you know somebody who is on their cell phone 24/7? Are you someone who has to have their phone on them at all times? Social media. Music. Networking and connections. Friends and family. Cell phones have so many uses nowadays that it pretty much is a laptop computer in the palm of your hand. The thing that ticks me off the most is people who can't put their phone down for a couple of seconds to have a decent conversation with someone. You walk into Red Sauce for dinner, and all you see is typically either a group of people on their phones, a person who is alone and to make the time there less awkward they are on their phones, or (AND THIS ONE KILLS ME)… A couple who are on their phones and not talking to each other because they would rather be delved into stupid social media apps or texting/calling someone else. You're there with your significant other! F***ing talk to them! I know that I have been on a date to a nice restaurant, and I can say that the other person was more into their phone than what I had to say. So I became quiet, and they wondered why I had stopped talking. Obviously you didn't care for what I had to say earlier, so what makes you care now?
Want me to keep going?
I am on an athletic team, and on the bus rides to away games, instead of having stupid times and making funny or great memories each and every person has their face buried in their cell phone. I'm not saying that I don't do that on occasion, because I know I do, but I could easily go without my phone for a week as long as I had an alarm clock that would wake me up in time for classes haha! But in my personal life, I usually only use my cell phone for music. I am a huge music addict and my phone is my music player. I also use it to text people, but unless I send the first text, I usually am just looking at the screen of my phone with my fingers crossed that someone might even be slightly be wanting to talk to me. So if you look at me and I'm on my phone and you're about to label me a hypocrite, just be sure I'm not trying to change my song or look up the number to the doctors office or something.
There are numerous categories for people that have cell phones. There are the gamers who only use it for game apps. There are the obnoxious Facetimers who go to the gym and sit on a machine just going through the routine while face timing their long-lost "BFF" from high school. There are the music addicts (which I place myself into). The non-stop texters. The social media scrollers. Facebookers. Tweeters. Instagramers. These all belong to that category where you scroll for hours and see the same things pop up over and over again. The viners who "Do it for the vine." that also could belong to the social media scrollers. And whatever else you could possibly come up with.
If you don't want to talk to me, cool. I understand. If you are that bored and want to lay in bed all day while scrolling through twitter because you have nothing to do with your life. Awesome. If you are addicted to that goddamn game Flappy Bird, please sign up for Flappy Anonymous at www.Ihavenolife.com/flappybirdapplication/addicts/Ineedhelp. If you would like for your boyfriend or girlfriend keep paying for your dinner dates, then I suggest that you keep your phone in your pocket, or even better yet, DON'T BRING IT! I've seen this thing where at dinner, all people must put their phones in the middle of the table and the first person to touch their phone has to pay for the entire meal for everyone that is there. I, personally, love this idea! Cell phones have taken over our lives and I think something needs to be done about it. I just might have to invent some kind of electromagnetic pulse that fries all cellular technologies and satellites that way people actually have to talk face-to-face. Why do you think managers and employers say that our generation is terrible at job interviews? First off, probably because we don't practice them enough through mock interviews, but the main reason is that we are so used to just emailing or submitting an application online for a job that coming in contact with the person behind that screen makes us so nervous.
So the next time your phone buzzes, just take a moment to think about this. Think about what you've read and what I've told you. Because chances are, that you immediately look at it, or you are so addicted to it that you think you hear/feel it vibrate or ring that you check it anyways. That's actually categorized as a mental disorder now, did you know that? Hmm, maybe you did from Twitter?

Helicopter Parents in college
the most exciting time in my life probably had to be when i graduated from highschool! i no longer had to deal with cliques or rude immature people. what was even more exciting was the fact i was now able to move away from and enjoy my new independence. i found myself far away enough from home that i couldn't commute and but close enough that i could easily go every weekend but of course i chose not too. i felt like i had left my entire child hood behind me. the one thing however that i couldn't seem to shake was of course my helicopter parents. in the first couple days they they would each call me up to 5 times in day. at the time i had am labs from 1:45 to 7:45 so not only during this time was my phone continuously ringing i coulndt seem to stop the texts from coming in either. i am now in my second year of college and the phone calls certaintly still come in every day but much less frequent.

Girls who intentionally talk with a vocal fry voice
It seems to me that ever since the Kardashians came on the scene and Paris Hilton uttered the phrase, "THAT'S HOT" girls around the world think its okay to talk with a vocal fry. Now you know what I mean. Those girls who always say, OH MY GOD & I JUST WANT A SALAD, while there twirling their hair and faking their natural voice. It annoys me beyond measure when I hear girls talk like this. Everyone knows that that is not your natural voice so stop forcing that sound to come out. Everyday when I go to work I tally how many times a day a girl comes in and speaks with a vocal fry. My record so far is 13. Now I can understand if girls really talked like that, but I KNOW YOU DON'T! It seems to be that girls are just playing stupid when they talk like that to come off as attractive, but personally I don't think its working.

Who Said Stress Was A Bad Thing?
When you hear the word "stress", do you think of being under pressure and nervous? Do you suddenly think "oh crap" when you hear something that stresses you out? Well, how about if I told you that looking at stress in a positive way can literally save your life? Let's just imagine real quick.. what if you when you heard the word "stress," you thought of motivation and a healthier life? Studies show that not only do people who believe stress is murderous have a higher rate of deaths, but also that those who don't believe or know about the negative effects of stress actually live longer, healthier lives. If you think of stress as pressure that motivates you to do better rather than a feeling that can kill you, you will live longer, happier, and healthier. Who wouldn't want that? So which solution do you think is better: worrying yourself to your own death or being positive to lead you to success?

Euthanasia
Which of the following solutions do you find more effective for solving the issue of euthanasia versus life support/life prolonging medicine or assistance?
Option A. Allowing the terminally ill and suffering to choose to be euthanized or giving their family members/doctors who have proved to have no financial interest/ gain in their death permission to determine if they should be euthanized.
Option B. Making it illegal for the terminally ill and suffering to choose if they can be euthanized and have them live out their lives for as long as possible on life support and forbidding family members or doctors to intervene.

America's Future Nutritional Health
Health conditions like bad nutrition lead to other health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and many others. Due to the rapid growth of preventable health related diseases, we need to take action.
In order to decrease this growth and prevent/control these diseases, the only actions people have to take are to eat a healthy nutritionally balanced diet and regularly exercise. Since people are aware of this, yet still don't change their lifestyles to better their health we are posed with the question of how to take action.
In your opinion, which option would prove to be more effective for our future nation?
Option A: Provide a nutrition/life skills class that is part of the daily curriculum for middle and high school students, so that they can learn the importance of nutritionally balanced meals and how they effect their health. This class will be interactive in which there is a portion of the class that is taught in a classroom and another portion of the class that is taught in a kitchen so that the students can learn how to accurately produce/cook their own food.
Option B: Provide funds for research on more weight loss surgeries to stop these health related issues.

Rant.
One of my BIGGEST pet peeves about college is seeing the vast amount of students who slack off too much and favor drinking, smoking, and partying over being productive and getting things done for school (especially freshmen). I'm not trying to say that every student at JWU who parties is a bad student or a bad person, but it just amazes me how many students cannot function in class unless they are high. Or how many students cannot make it through one weekend without going to a party, bar, and/or club, and getting drunk. I personally don't drink or smoke, for a lot of reasons, but it makes me sad to see how much time and money people waste when they make partying a priority over school.
Anyone who goes here is no stranger to the fact that JWU is very expensive. And to see students waste their time and money here because they "can't get through the day without smoking" is just so odd to me. There are so many more important things in life and, contrary to popular belief, smoking and drinking doesn't make anyone look cool. I don't have sympathy for people who show up to class hungover and complain that they're tired or have a headache because they were drinking. People don't take responsibility for their actions and they have no one to blame but themselves. Not to mention, I find it really rude and unprofessional to show up to class and complain that they don't want to be there the whole time, just because they are hungover and tired or they need a cigarette. If you know you're going to stay out late/party too much, then why sign up for early classes? And I cannot stand listening to people brag about whatever party they went to over the weekend because I honestly don't care.
I know a lot of people here can balance their party and school life well, but a lot of people here also can't seem to. And a lot of people have a lot of different opinions about this, but it just gets really old after a while.

Rant Rant Rant
Ever have one of those days where you just are annoyed by anything, and everything? Today has just been one of those days….
Something in particular that has been disturbing me, however, is how catty girls are or can be. It's as if nothing is good enough for them. I am indeed a female, and am not in the slightest attempting to bash my own kind, I've just noticed this more and more lately in teenage girls. "Did you see what she's wearing? My GOD it's like she got dressed blind." "I can't believe she even said that about -insert band name here-, it's like she lacks any musical taste" and so on. I can't go one day without hearing a female say one negative thing about another female. My question is why? Why are you being so horrible to this individual or just making comments that are so irrelevant?
I'm not trying to make myself look like a saint, I'll admit that I'm guilty of making these comments as well. Now that I'm aware of the potential pain that they can cause to an individual, I steer myself away from making these comments. You never know what kind of battle an individual is facing, or what kind of a comment may hit home for them.
While being 100% kind 100% of the time is fairly impossible, just think before you speak.

Justin Bieber Rant
Many people have heard about the problems that Justin Bieber has been through. Well, a part of me thinks it's hilarious because I find Justin Bieber a pain in this generation. With the drag racing, charged with driving under the inflence, resisting arrest, and driving with an expired driver's license, I just feel like he should go back to Canada and stop singing. There are at least 256, 670 people that have signed a White House petition to have Bieber be deported. A part of me hopes that he does get deport to Canada. There are many Bieber fans that are younger than 16 who are influenced by Justin Bieber. And I don't think American teens (or younger) need to end up like him. But that's just me.

This Ted Talk is about how looks are not everything. Model Cameron Russell speaks about how her modeling career and how people see her in photos is not really her. She talks about how she understands why so many girls want to grow up and be models, but it is not all it is cracked up to be.

The Fosters Review
The Foster's Review
I typically don't watch teenage drama shows or TV, to be honest, but The Foster's caught my eye. After watching the first episode and seeing the dynamics of the plot, I simply couldn't pry myself from Netflix to finish the first season before the next one came out. The show captures the struggle of same sex relationships, foster care system, and family strength. Throughout the season drama, consequences, laughter, and pain all bring together the uprising of the Foster family.

Clockwork Angel Review
I never was into the Harry Potter series or any books that were extremely fiction, but Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare is deffinitely an exception! This book crosses the lines between an unrealistic magic world, but uses imagination and creativity to grasp the true aspects of everyday life and to show the ethics that many people posses.
If you want a great book to read look no further!

Voluntary Euthanasia vs Nature
http://new.ted.com/talks/peter_saul_let_s_talk_about_dying
Peter Saul is a doctor and intensive care specialist. For over 35 has been involved in the lives and deaths of over 4,000 patients. He is very involved and determined to improve the way we die and the processes leading up to it. Euthanasia (Mercy Killing) is a very controversial topic. Some believe that the terminally ill and suffering should be able to choose to die and if they are not capable of making that decision, their family members can choose to do so for them. Others believe that this should be forbidden and they should die naturally.
Do you believe choosing death is our final right or that we should be kept alive until nature decides it is time for us to move on? Or is there a compromise in between?

Ron Finley - A Guerilla Gardener in South Central LA
http://new.ted.com/talks/ron_finley_a_guerilla_gardener_in_south_central_la
Ron Finley is a man who put time, effort and love to encouraging kids, families and the whole community to grow their own fresh fruits and veggies. He realized the food system in that local area is seriously bad to the community, all people can eat was burgers, pizzas and other junk food. He started to planting food around neighborhood and parkways. The people responded for what he was doing and people followed him. From my point of view, he did a really great job on really helping people to improve their new way of eating, and new way of living a healthy life.
After watching the video, what do you think of his revolutionary change to his community? Can you think an another way of encouraging people to eat healthy?

Our Failing Schools - Enough Is Enough!
Geoffrey Canada, an education advocate, discusses the problems in our education system and poses solutions to them. He makes bold statements about the education system and why it fails. He brings up problems such as why so many students slip through the cracks of the education system, fail, and end up dropping out; how teachers continue to make the same mistakes time and time again; and why the government needs to stop investing money in other countries such as Afghanistan and start investing money into education.
What problems do you see in the education system and what solutions would you pose to fix these problems?

Teach Every Child About Food
The chef, Jamie Oliver, that composed this video is addressing the problems of health related issues in the United States that are increasingly killing people more and more each year due to the lack of knowledge in how to cook or of what to consume. Oliver shows statistics that correlate the main causes of death in the U.S. at this time are health conditions such as obesity and heart disease, which are both preventable.
Jamie Oliver's solution for this problem is to educate people, from children to adults, of which foods to eat, how to prepare those foods, and how to live a balanced life to prevent health implications.
In your opinion, do you think if people are properly educated about what food products are healthy and how to prepare healthy meals will the percentage of obesity in our country go down?

Envy
In the Ted Talk linked at the bottom of this post, editor Parul Sehgal talks about envy and jealousy. She starts off with a personal anecdote about how jealousy affected her childhood, and from there, branches off into a wider topic. She begins to discuss the role of envy in fiction, and how fiction exists solely based off of jealousy.
So what is jealousy and how have you been affected by it? Watch this Ted Talk and reflect!

Lux Burger!!
This past weekend I went to the restaurant Lux Burger for the first time and It was one of the best places I have ever experienced. I can now totally see why everyone has been raving about it since my time here at JWU first started. My favorite part is the "build your own burger". It gives you the chance to go all out and get what ever you want. They don't just have burgers either, they have a ton of fun apps and entrees to choose from. I highly recommend this restaurant, its definitely a place you have to try if your in the Providence area.

Born Sinner
'Crooked Smile', 'Forbidden Fruit', and 'Let Nas Down' are just a few my favorite songs on J Cole's second album "Born Sinner". The album is incredible, so much so that it can be played from beginning to end without skipping a track.
J Cole is an amazing rap artist, a true lyricist. His raps are filled with relatable situations told using metaphors, mild profanity, and humor. His story telling lyrics combined with great beats makes an undeniable union. If you haven't already purchased Born Sinner I would highly suggest that you do, it is definitely worth the money.

Mu Mu's the only legit Chinese food in RI
I have been to many authentic Chinese restaurants, and I will vouch for MuMu's as RI's #1 choice for real Chinese food. Not American-ized garbage like general sous chicken or sweet and sour mush. Mu Mu's is located on Atwells Ave. in Fed Hill, and it's worth the trip and the price. Friendly staff and service with an excellent atmosphere. I would recommend getting the pork soup dumplings; you will never be able to eat another frozen hunk of meat and dough again after trying these.

Documentary "Food, Inc." Review
A disclose of what and how food that people eat nowadays in America, this mind blowing documentary will tell you the truth and you might will change the way you eat.
The film gave a surprisingly message about where our foods were came from, how they have been produced, processed, and even consumed. The film will tell you how McDonalds became huge and successful, why most of the fruits and produce are all year around in the supermarket, and why the meats on the shelves are most without bones anymore and chickens are all the same sizes.
The movie also used several real-life characters-the low income family of four kids can not afford healthy food like fresh produce from supermarket because the price is high, and they decided to buy burgers; the parents who lost their little son to a hamburger with E.coli; the farmer who raise chicken for a company in the end the contract are terminated because of the disturbing facts to humanize this film.
The people who watch this documentary will also learn some fascinating, disturbing things about corn, soybeans, beef, pigs and chicken. The food industry simply pushing everything from slow to fast, lean to fat, and small to big. For example, chicken used to small and takes long time to grow to a desired size in order to sell. However, now the chicken grow a lot faster than before and grow much bigger than before. The situation has been changed and it leads to the consequences of people getting sick or even die.
However the documentary has its bright side, which is letting people know what they are actually eating. Also it will change the way people choose their food products, and the way of eating them.

notorious bully, Tyray, before school even starts. Minding his own business,

for allowing some kid bully him for his money. Something so childish yet
dangerous put Darrell’s life at risk, he decided that it was time to make a few
changes. After reading Hatchet in class he was inspired to join his schools

BOOK REVIEW
Clay Jensen, a typical high schooler. Avoids being at home and spending ‘’bonding time’’ with his mother and keeps his talk about his romantic relations to a minimum. His heart is shattered when his crush Hannah Baker, whom he’d gone to school with but merely knows by a distance commits suicide. With this news clay also receives a package in the mail with thirteen taped recorded messages inside, plus a map with a number of places circled. There is also no return address. Clay plays the tapes immediately and is shocked to find out that they are from Hannah, giving thirteen reasons why she ended her life. Hannah speaks on thirteen different people and the role they played in her life.
Clay follows each and every one of Hannah’s stories closely, he even travels with the map of each thought out location, he desperately wants to obey her last requests and to hear her story because he is dying to understand, but as he continues to travel he in turn thinks about his own actions and how they affected Hannah as well. He regrets many things but also reflects on many mistakes as well. The overall message of Jay Asher’s, ‘’Thirteen reasons why’’ is as we go on in life we need to understand and become more aware of how we affect peoples lives each and every day.. This book incorporated serious problems that many people deal with in todays society. Rape, sexual abuse, stalking and peer pressure all play serious roles through out the book and what really makes the book hit home is that the characters are teens just like me.
